Our philosophy
Life is full of transitions, they are a normal part of life. Developmentally we
transition our way through the life span, moving from being a baby onto
childhood followed by adolescence, young adulthood, middle age, and
eventually if we look after ourselves and with a bit of luck we live to reach
old age.
These developmental stages are accompanied by a range of other transitions
that will vary from person to person but may include leaving school, getting
our first job, getting married, becoming parents, changing careers, going into
business, getting a promotion, moving location, and retiring.
Some transitions are planned while others are unexpected and not all
transitions are welcomed, for instance redundancy, divorce or losing a
loved one. At Positive Transitions we believe every transition is an
opportunity for growth and renewal.
Our approach to counselling/therapy and coaching
The psychologists at Positive Transitions work with clients within a
Solution Focused - Cognitive Behavioural framework in addition to
drawing on research from the fields of Positive Psychology and Coaching
Psychology to help you fulfil your potential and achieve an engaged and
meaningful life.
Positive Psychology is the study of optimal human functioning, while
Coaching Psychology is about facilitating individuals to be empowered to
achieve their personal and professional goals. These approaches focus on
defining purpose, clarifying values, identifying strengths, developing goals,
and enacting actions to achieve change.
The Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioural Models are active
approaches rather than purely reflective. They drive change as well as
promoting insight and understanding of why a problem or issue occurs.
These models focus on the construction of a solution and de-emphasize
but do not discount a person’s history by focusing more on the present,
where problems are maintained, not the past that may have “caused” them.
These models help you to overcome self-limiting beliefs and unhelpful
self-talk that can maintain problems or create barriers to achieving what
you want from life.
All of the approaches described above place the responsibility for making
change firmly in the hands of the client. At Positive Transitions we place
the highest emphasis on respect for our clients and their competence,
strengths and resources while providing support in relation to navigating
their individual transition.
What is personal work/life coaching?
Work/life coaching is about helping people develop and achieve goals, maximize personal development and navigate transitions on the path to realising their ideal vision for the
current and emerging chapters of their lives.
Coaching is the collaborative alliance between coach
and client based on a solution-focused, result-oriented,
systematic process in which the coach facilitates the client
to be empowered to think, feel and behave in new ways,
assisting them to achieve goal attainment in their personal
and/or professional life, leading to the enhancement of the
life experience. |
